We cruise in to the seven eleven
Jackets from the 86 grey cup
Daily Keno down the 407
when we know it's time to live it up
Like we've been chosen
by some higher power here.
Take me down to the legion,
we'll have some coffee and warm beer
And I'll shake your hand,
grab you a drink and say "hey man"
"Brother how did I get here?"
"How will I stay for another year?"
and "Honey, lets go out"
"Tear the lights right out of this town"
"And wind up alone"
"In this place we still call home"
Let the coliseum stand.
Roar with drunken bullshit once again.
Double doubles at the Tim's on Hunter
and then hang around in Jackson Square.
All this talk about the lousy weather
I so you know that we still care.
And I'll shake your hand,
grab you a drink and say "hey man"
"Brother how did I get here?"
"How will I stay for another year?"
and "Honey, lets go out"
"Tear the lights right out of this town"
"And wind up alone"
"In this place we still call home"
Let the coliseum stand.
Roar with drunken bullshit once again.

GTA

I worked in a decent rank down at the GOC.
I had my secret clearance and I had my BBB.
They streamlined me and all my team; distraught, we heard the call:
"There's plenty of contracts in Toronto."
So I hopped on the Transpo and I rode it out to Smyth.
I dried Cassandra's tears, I told her there's a better life,
For you and I and others disenfranchised by the loss
Of our jobs! We're headed For Toronto.
GTA, I'm coming, GTA.
Cause Jimmy took my office job away.
The age of austerity upon us, as they say
GTA, I'm coming, GTA.
So I said goodbye to Carleton Place and said goodbye to Perth.
I said "ahoy prosperity! Lets find out what I'm worth."
But many others had that plan - they'd heard the call and packed their vans and
Fought for empty units in Toronto.
I took my polished résumé on down to Bloor and Yonge -
They said "son, we'll consider it. We'll call you when we're done."
I did not hear my cell phone ring - I sat in bars and heard them sing:
'We're listless and hammered, in Toronto!"
GTA, I'm coming, GTA.
Cause Jimmy took my office job away.
The age of austerity upon us as they say.
GTA, I'm coming, GTA.
Not having any real luck with the women living here,
I went to see Cassandra in the place I still hold dear.
She'd come to like her life alone. We had a drink and she went home.
And the train took me back to Toronto.
GTA, I'm coming, GTA.
With your lawyers and your bankers and your quays.
Our state of alacrity, eroding day by day.
GTA, I'm coming!
GTA, I'm coming!
GTA, I'm coming there to stay.

Coming Attractions

I’m terrified by these coming attractions –
Give me a minute to live in the past.
I was the scene with the climactic action.
Now I’m still as a mountain pass
Pierced thinly by the quietest freight train;
Painted grey by the billowing steam.
The red, windswept stones of the gateway:
Shake for the iron seam.
All I see is the cold and quiet stream,
Where’s the sea? Where’s the sea?
And all I am is a dark and heavy hand
Hold me now; set this free.
This whole thing’s an unexpected addition,
Like a jail at the end of your road
Like a chemical fire in your kitchen -
Like a gun at a rock and roll show;
Like lovers in a dangerous headspace.
I like the rush but ain’t fond of the risk
I was the scene ‘bout the dynamite briefcase
Now I’m dreamin' 'bout a stolen kiss.
All I see is the cold and quiet stream,
Where’s the sea? Where’s the sea?
And all I am is a dark and heavy hand
Hold me now. Set this free.
And all I am is a dark and heavy hand
Hold me now. Set this free.

Contemplate my life on the screen
No kind of life for the ones who live in between
The crashing highs and blistering defeats
The Christmas present that Mothra gave to me
I'm kind of lonely but it's alright
Anytime I am, I can remember that I'm
An invention of man
A tool of the Japanese
I'd pass the time with movies
If I didn't live under the sea
If I didn't live under the sea
I grew up deep in the water
Came to this city of light and sound
Only found, the little things
People run in every direction
Beneath my feet, I could almost bring it down
All around them
You kind of look like Marilyn Monroe from up here, but then again
Everyone does if you get far away, and she never starred in a monster movie, anyway
It gets old, after a while
the fake blood, the drama. Oh you'll see!
I'll run away for a thousand years
to return a less fearsome, less perfect version of me.
And if I could, I'd escape.
Let every car-sized footprint punctuate:
I grew up deep in the water
Came to this city of light and sound
Only found, the little things
People run in every direction
Beneath my feet, I could almost bring it down
All around them

Cross Country Canada Toronto, Ontario
Cross Country Canada (XCC) is a band formed by three friends over a mutual love of music, weird stories, and track-ball computer games. The XCC sound part Weakerthans fanboy, part "your dad's basement record collection", and all whimsy.
